Flash Fiction

The park’s parking lot has only one car, with red and blue lights. No tennis or soccer players, or even the usual people wandering around. While going to play with Jay Bird, my Razor scooter made tracks on the concrete and sidewalk. Water breaches my classic clog Crocs; I trudge through the flooded field to Bird’s house. The scooter gives me Ankle pain walking to the front door. No door knob, but a steel curtain that is also blocking all windows. Then palm fronds began flurrying like fire. The scooter swept out of my hand from the gust of wind, impacting a car that screams.

“When are my parents coming home!”
